Deadline: November 23 Computer software and technology have forever expanded the ways artists capture and produce their work. Artists can weave together scenes in photoshop, produce paintings through a screen, create videos, animations, and projections that transport us to new worlds, and sculpt with a 3D printer. Maryland Federation of Art (MFA) invites all artists residing in any of the states or territories of the US, Canada, or Mexico to enter our 3rd annual Digital Directions exhibition. Deadline: December 4 Art can be created with order or disorder; a plan or in chaos. Technology-based art can embrace or ignore process in new and intriguing methods. Sequence at Touchstone Gallery invites artists or artist teams to submit works that are created with, or influenced by, technology. Artists and artist teams are invited to submit film, video, video games, digital works, physical works created from digital processes, sound, light-, and time-based pieces, performance pieces, and more. This exhibition welcomes art created with, in part by, or inspired by any digital technology. Deadline: December 15 The Arts Council is seeking panelists to serve on our Artistic Review Panel (ARP). We award over $600,000 annually in operating and special project grants through several grant programs including: Community Arts Development for Howard County arts organizations, Artists-in-Education for Howard County Schools, and Baltimore City Arts & Cultural Organizations for key Baltimore City organizations. Deadline: January 1 The Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) manages two galleries at the Howard County Center for the Arts with over 21,000 square feet of exhibit space. The HCAC gallery program was established to enhance the public’s appreciation of the visual arts, provide a venue to exhibit the work of local, regional, and national artists in a professional space, and provide leadership in the arts by presenting a broad spectrum of arts in all media from both emerging and established artists. Deadline: February 10 This 9th Annual Allegany National Photography Competition & Exhibition (ANPCE), sponsored by the Allegany Arts Council, will meld the region’s rich concentration of photographic artists with an influx of national photographers in a juried competition offering $6,500 in cash prizes. Deadline: November 17 The Center for Contemporary Art 2023 International Juried Exhibition will be held January 20 – March 3, 2023. The exhibition will consist of two- and three-dimensional work in all media. Work across a variety of display solutions is also encouraged. Awards include cash prizes and a Special Exhibitions Committee Award, for which to three artists will be selected for a solo exhibition at The Center for Contemporary Art in spring 2024. Deadline: November 25 The VisArts Emerging Curator Program offers a unique opportunity for an emerging curator or artist with an interest in exhibition-making or curating to work with an experienced mentoring curator to develop and present an exhibition and to assist in the presentation of the mentor’s exhibition. To develop expanded education programming and enhanced visitor experiences, the 2023 Emerging Curator and the 2023 Mentoring Curator will also focus on developing tools to support public programming that promotes social interaction, creative exchange, and audience engagement. Deadline: November 27 The City of Norfolk seeks to commission an artist to design and create exterior artwork for the new Fire Rescue Station in Norfolk, Virginia. The artwork will be inspiring, engaging, forward-thinking, and make a strong statement that lives up to the quality of the building design. The total budget for the completed, delivered, and installed artwork is $125,000 that will cover artist’s honorarium, engineering, fabrication, installation, materials, shipping, insurance, and travel expenses necessary to complete the project, project plaque, final documentation, and any incidental expenses. Deadline: November 30 Pyramid Atlantic now offers a paid internship opportunity for college or post-college artists. Our interns are a core part of the Pyramid team, gaining hands-on experience in printmaking, papermaking, and book arts. This is the first of an annual exhibition and will be a focal point of Ceramics Take Over Wheeling, a citywide event that will celebrate ceramic artists and clay enthusiasts alike. Deadline: January 15, 2023 Folger Institute Artistic Research Fellowships are open to artists working in all media whose work would benefit from significant primary research. This includes, but is not limited to, visual artists, writers, dramaturgs, playwrights, performers, filmmakers, and composers. Artistic fellowships may be conducted either as a virtual fellowship for one month or as a residential fellowship at the Folger for one, two, or three months. Learn more here.
Deadline: February 28, 2023 Maryland State Arts Council is now accepting applications for a special cycle of the Folklife Apprenticeship made available through Arts Relief funding. Folklife Apprenticeships are $5,000 each and support traditional arts education through the teaching of skills from a master artist to an apprentice artist. Applicants who are eligible for Folklife Apprenticeships are traditional artists who have resided in Maryland for at least six months. For more information, click here.
Deadline: Until filled The Art League is looking for skilled instructors in all visual arts disciplines. We’re particularly keen to recruit new hires for our sculpture, stained glass, and watercolor departments. Preferred applicants will have a personable and patient disposition, excellent communication skills, and the ability to teach their medium to groups of beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced level students. Class sizes range, depending on enrollment, from around 5 to 30 students. Experience teaching is helpful but not an absolute requirement. Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council (PGAHC) is featuring county artists at its newest art space Arts’tination at National Harbor, the premier arts and entertainment destination in our regions Located at 162 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD. Arts’tination is dedicated to supporting local artists and curating immersive creative experiences. Pyramid Atlantic offers year-round workshops in printmaking, papermaking, book arts, and hybrids thereof. Busboys and Poets is looking for submissions from Maryland and Virginia artists as it expands to new locations in both areas. The Alper Initiative for Washington Art features five exhibitions per year in the newly constructed first floor space in the American University Museum. We accept submissions, on a rolling basis, from Washington artists of all ages and backgrounds, and working in diverse media. The Hamilton Arts Collective (HAC) and the Hamilton Gallery seek applications from artists for month-long Guest Artist exhibitions at Hamilton Gallery located at 5502 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators. The money is pooled from ten or more self-organizing “micro-trustees.” The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest. This opportunity is great for both established and early career artists who need a boost to their artist portfolio. The 10th edition will once again explore and show current trends and tendencies in Contemporary Art: Peripheral ARTeries cultivates a spirit of openness through a unique collaborative and participatory approach.Each artist may submit a maximum of three works or projects made in any technique: painting, drawing, video art, experimental cinema, fine art photography, experimental media, mixed media, installations, public art, performance.
