Call for Entry, 2023 Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival — Montgomery, NY
Deadline: July 28 The Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival is a juried exhibition open to all painters in all mediums. The festival will include artist awards and an opportunity to sell work created during the event to the public. Artists may paint at locations of their choosing within the Hudson Valley map provided. Call for Entry, Quilts=Art=Quilts, Schweinfurth Art Center — Auburn, NY
Deadline: August 1 Quilts=Art=Quilts is an international juried quilt exhibition at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, New York. The Art Center has been a longstanding proponent of quilts as a visual arts medium and has been presenting quilts in a gallery setting since 1981. Deadline: August 20 Each year, View Center for Arts in Culture in Old Forge, New York, holds the “Quilts Unlimited” exhibition — which is open to all artists working in the fiber based quilting medium. Deadline: August 2 This exhibit of watermedia is open to all artists residing in the Mid-Atlantic states (NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, VA, WV, and DC) and all Baltimore Watercolor Society signature members regardless of residence. Call for Artists, Gallery B Exhibition Proposals — Bethesda, MD
Deadline: August 10 The Bethesda Urban Partnership and Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District announce the “Call for Artists” for visual artists interested in renting Gallery B in 2024. They offer the opportunity for you to sell and receive exposure in downtown Bethesda with no commission on any artwork that is sold. Call for Submissions, MPAArtfest — McLean , Virginia
Deadline: June 17 (early-bird discount for entries received before May 20) McLean Project for the Arts currently seeks submissions for the 17th Annual MPAartfest, a one-day juried fine art and craft show and sale featuring the work of more than 40 local and regional visual artists. Call to Artists, F. Scott Fitzgerald Art Poster Contest 2023 — Rockville, MD
Deadline: June 24 Maryland, D.C., and Virginia artists are invited to submit a poster design for the F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival Poster Contest. An exhibition will be held for the winner and finalists at the F. Scott Literary Festival to be held in Rockville on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Call for Entry, Love is destructive./I need you., Stamp Gallery — College Park, MD
Deadline: June 26 Love is destructive./I need you. concerns itself with the Ordinary Man’s falling out of love with life. Inspired by French Existentialist philosopher Albert Camus’s essay “The Myth of Sisyphus,” the exhibition follows the Ordinary Man’s descent into depression, desire for meaning, and finally his choice between rejecting or accepting the Absurd. For this exhibition, the Stamp Gallery is looking for work engaged with absurdist themes and our persistent struggle against an abundance of free will in a world with no tangible answers. Black Art Today Scholarship for Graduating High School Students
Deadline: June 30 The Black Art Today Foundation will award two $1,000 scholarships to two graduating high school students. Applicants must be residents of Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Montgomery County, or Prince George’s County. Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the visual, performing, or literary arts including music, dance, theatre, or other performing arts at an accredited college and/or university in the United States. Call for Entry, Foundry Gallery Artists’ Choice: Regional Juried Group Show — D.C.
Deadline: June 30 This month-long group show at the Foundry’s industrial-style space in Washington, DC is open to painting, drawing, mixed media and photography by artists age 18 and up in the greater Washington area (you have to be close enough to deliver your work). Deadline: June 30 Studio Gallery is accepting applications for three fellowships to begin in August 2023. The fellowships are open to artists between the ages of 21 and 30 who reside in the DMV area. Call for Entry, Collaborative Arts Resource Fellowship Program — D.C.
Deadline: July 10 The Phillips Collection, DC Public Library, and The Nicholson Project are partnering to pilot the Collaborative Arts Resource District Fellowship Program (CARD), a collaborative 12-week fellowship that connects artists with professional and financial resources to create and bolster sustainable art careers and foster the contemporary art community in the Washington, DC, area. Deadline: July 22 McLean Project for the Arts is seeking mid-Atlantic artists (DC, VA, MD, PA, NJ, DE, WV) to submit works that relate to the concept of (Not) Strictly Painting to be exhibited both in the gallery. Call for Entries, Embodying Masonic Values-2023, Masonic Library & Museum of Pennsylvania — Philadelphia
Deadline: August 10 For this open art competition, all artwork entries must display a visual interpretation of some aspect of Freemasonry in Pennsylvania, whether it be philosophical, historical, scientific, social, fraternal, charitable, architectural, etc. Selected artwork will be exhibited in the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia. Constructed in 1873, the Masonic Temple has become one of the great “wonders” of the Masonic world. Adorned with some of the finest artifacts of Freemasonry and magnificent lodge rooms based on themes of the ancient architectural world. The Masonic Temple connects us with our past by outwardly displaying our Masonic traditions and values. Located within the Masonic Temple is the Masonic Library & Museum of Pennsylvania, which houses thousands of texts and artifacts relating to the history of the fraternity in the Commonwealth and the founding of our great nation. Call to Artists, VSA Emerging Young Artists 2023: Interchange — D.C.
Deadline: August 18 The VSA Emerging Young Artists Program, a Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program, showcases the work of visual artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, who reside in the United States. Fifteen winning artists are selected by a jury. Each winning artist receives a $5,000 award and has one of their submitted pieces selected to travel in a year-long national exhibition. Winning artists are required to attend an all-expenses-paid professional development workshop at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. February 26-29, 2024. Deadline: September 29 From juror Mike Jabbur: “As I consider applications, I have no preference for a single style or approach. I hope to see examples that emphasize practical form and function, sculptural exploration that maintains functionality, and metaphorical teapots that may not function at all—the so-called “teapot as sculpture.” I welcome teapots made with any clay bodies, firing methods, and forming processes.
