June 2024 Landscape Exhibit
Join us in celebrating the beauty of landscapes at our yearly Landscape Exhibit! It’s a wonderful chance for members to showcase their works, be it charming country scenes or vibrant cityscapes, in any medium. The exhibition always promises an exciting mix of styles, from classic to abstract. This year’s exhibit features 88 artworks. Carlton Fletcher, a renowned artist from D.C. and one of the founding members of the Washington Studio School, served as juror.
Dimensions 2024 Sculpture Exhibit
Our annual Dimensions Sculpture Exhibit showcases a multitude of three-dimensional masterpieces, each one uniquely crafted from a variety of materials. These include ceramics, stone, wood, and even more unconventional mediums like glass and metal. But we don’t stop there. Our collection extends further into the world of mixed media, pushing the boundaries of traditional art. This offers our visitors a visually stunning array of artwork, providing a feast for the senses. We invite you to delve into the world of art from a fresh perspective and experience the wonder of three-dimensional art in Dimensions.
Prismatic Motion by Keeley Rae
Step into the lively world of June Solo Artist Keeley Rae‘s latest collection, Prismatic Motion. Here, she diverges from her signature quiet stillness and muted hues for a striking exploration of life’s colorful dynamics. Her artwork captures subjects in a playful dance of twists, tumbles, and floats, each movement carrying a sense of grace and power. Rae has created a joyous gathering space where viewers can share in the jubilation of life’s exuberant rhythms.
June exhibits at The Art League are on view through July 7.
Solstice Saturday at the Smithsonian
Join the Smithsonian in marking off the official start of summer with its signature celebration Solstice Saturday! Free celebrations take place throughout the day and night, with museums on the National Mall offering extended hours. This is the sixth annual Solstice Saturday, and it will highlight the Smithsonian’s Cosmic Journey campaign, celebrating space exploration and the 25th anniversary of the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Solstice Saturday is held in association with Hofstra University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy. Hofstra’s Astronomy Festival on the National Mall also takes place Saturday, June 22, 6–11 p.m., in front of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. A full schedule of programming is available here.
Behind the Facade: Interpreting the Interior
In Behind the Facade, a new group exhibit at Calloway Fine Art, 16 artists—including The Art League’s Abol Bahadori— explore interior spaces ranging from tranquil living quarters to busy public places. It opens Saturday, June 22 with a reception fro 3–5 p.m., and is on view through July 20; 1643 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, D.C.
GROUNDED
GROUNDED, at the American University Museum, brings together an inspiring group of 15 premier contemporary artists from Indigenous American tribes traditionally based in and around the Great Plains region, whose artistic practice is a unique blend of their heritage and creative expression. GROUNDED is an artistic exploration curated by CARAVAN, an international arts NGO, to inspire our imaginations about our need of being “grounded” in our relationship with all of creation: the earth and its wildlife, each other and ourselves. It is on view through August 11; 4400 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, D.C.
Enjoy the weekend! Stay cool!
