It showcases an exciting array of 86 pieces ranging from paintings and sculptures to mixed media, collage, photography, fiber art, and drawings. All these intriguing works were carefully selected by juror Elissa Armstrong, associate professor at the Department of Craft/Material Studies, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. Don’t miss this enchanting artistic spectacle!

Co-Creation: Artist/Model/Photographer by Jeff Levine

Ayers Rock, 2024, with Por Porcupine by Jeff Levine

Jeff Levine, our September Solo Artist, brings you a unique and immersive exhibit: Co-Creation: Artist/Model/Photographer. This exhibit transcends the traditional boundaries of artistry, featuring audio, visual, and installation elements. Levine’s work challenges conventional roles of artist and model, fostering environments where mutual respect and creativity thrive. The better the understanding of the model and her aspirations, the more fruitful the artistic result.

Petunias in Northern Light by Christine Dixon; Oil

Come and explore Gallery 75, our vibrant art hub nestled right here in our main gallery. It’s a treasure trove where you can find a range of affordable, extraordinary artwork created by our talented local member artists. Whether in the market for framed, unframed, or even three-dimensional pieces, you’ll find a wealth of pieces waiting for you to take home and display.

American Vignettes: Symbols, Society, and Satire

Vaughn Spann, Dark days bring new hope (never forget), 2020, polymer paint, pulp, mixed media, terry cloth, canvas on aluminum stretcher bars, 160 x 220 in.

The Rubell Museum DC presents American Vignettes: Symbols, Society, and Satire, a museum-wide reinstallation that showcases nearly 100 artworks spanning painting, photography, sculpture, installation, and mixed media by over 40 emerging and established artists, all drawn from the Rubells’ unparalleled and ever-growing collection of contemporary art of more than 7,700 works. Each artwork viewed separately stands alone, a vignette within one or more of the three exhibition themes. When considered together, the artworks compose a larger narrative, that of contemporary artists—some born in America, some who made America their home—and their compelling and varied approaches to artmaking. Featured artists include Robert Colescott, Rubén Esparza, David Hammons, Dana Schutz, Vaughn Spann, and Kara Walker, among many others. American Vignettes is on view through October 1; 65 I Street SW
Washington, D.C.

Jessica Mickey Close Encounters

Gallery Underground presents Close Encounters, a solo show by local photorealistic artist Jessica Mickey. Close Encounters is a vibrant exploration of the personal, the up-close, and the crowded. Mickey’s oil paintings radiate calculated energy and love, with beautiful imagery of people, places, and objects that enthusiastically invites the viewer to be a part of each specific encounter. This exhibition offers a personal take on a moment in time, capturing the essence of close interactions. It is on view through September 28; The Shops at 2100 Crystal Drive (2120-A Crystal Plaza Arcade), Arlington, Virginia.

Enjoy the weekend!
