Annual Yalda Market (a Winter Holiday Market) at Brookland Arts Walk

Celebrate the Winter Solstice and support local artists at the year’s Yalda Market!

Brookland Arts Walk hosts the annual Yalda Market, a winter holiday market commemorating the longest night of the year. This community-wide event gathers over 1,000 guests with local artists, delicious food, and entertainment. Yalda Night is celebrated on the winter solstice, the longest and darkest night of the year, and celebrates the idea that through togetherness and community, we may find hope and light to see out the longest night. This tradition is kept alive by inviting communities to partake in the vibrant and diverse sights, smells, tastes, sounds, and feelings of Yalda while also supporting local artists and makers in the DMV. This annual event has become a cherished part of DC’s art scene. Join the festivities on Saturday, December 21, from 3–7 p.m. at 716 Monroe Street NE, Washington, D.C.

The Materiality of Collage by Barbara Ziselberger

Orange Grid by Barbara Ziselberger

Barbara Ziselberger’s The Materiality of Collage, at Sandy Spring Museum, is an exploration of the physical and symbolic possibilities within the art of collage. Ziselberger brings together her passion for mark-making and found materials with her fascination for hand papermaking and love of collage. This project delves into the material aspects of line, texture, and surface, emphasizing the creation of artist-made collage elements, with a focus on handmade paper. The Materiality of Collage is on view through Saturday, December 22, with a reception on Sunday, December 23 from 12–2 p.m. (RSVP here); 17901 Bentley Road
Sandy Spring, Maryland.

New Work by Adam Bradley

Within a Forest Dark by Adam Bradley; Wood, ceramic, steel, 2024

Adam Bradley’s New Work, at Fred Schnider Gallery, explores grief, anxiety, and desperation, using the figure as a metaphor for emotional states. Inspired by classical Greek mythology, the sculptures weave these themes into a personal narrative. Each figure uniquely processes trauma—some masking distress with humor or play, others fleeing responsibilities at a personal cost. Large steel, wood, and ceramic sculptures emphasize gesture with rough, angular surfaces, while smaller bronze figures showcase textured, drawn-like immediacy. New Work is on view through December 27, with a closing event on Saturday, December 28, from 5–7 p.m.; 888 N. Quincy Avenue, Arlington, Virginia.

Happy holidays! 🎄
