Students approach abstract art through still life, figure, and landscape painting. Explore abstract form and image as the class progresses. Working with form, composition, line, and color, students search for their own interpretive style. The teacher provides individualized instruction for each student.

Into Abstraction Supply List- Oil Paint with John Blee
Choose Oil or Acrylic paints, it’s up to you. Below is the Oil list:

Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Red Medium
Quinacridone Red
Quinacridone Magenta or another dark red or magenta
Cadmium Orange
Ultramarine Blue
Pick a green
(also Cobalt or Cerulean Blue)

You can get more colors depending on your budget
For oil, you will need some oil medium.
Oil paints need a solvent to clean your brushes with. Gamsol is a good choice.
For oil paints you need to bring a jar to pour out your turpentine substitute in.
For acrylic, a painting medium is helpful (both gloss & matte) but not necessary.
An assortment of brushes, both round & flat
Canvas board or stretched canvas
Inexpensive paper that you can make painting sketches
Paper palette
If you have health concerns please bring latex gloves to paint with your oils.
A kit of supplies is available for purchase online through The Art League’s website, and can be shipped for a fee, or picked up curbside.
