Receiving:

  • Monday, November 3, 6:30-8:30 pm
  • Tuesday, November 4, 10am-12pm

small works dimensions:

  • image area: 6″ x 8″ or 48″ square, or smaller
  • with frame and matte: 10″ x 12″ or 120″ square, or smaller
  • stretched canvas: 8″ x 10″ or 80″ square, or smaller
  • frames that add more than 1/4″ to the total dimension must be factored into the total square inches to determine actual size
  • subject matter is NOT restricted to “miniatures”

Large Works Dimensions:

  • image area: 22″ x 30″ or larger
  • with frame and matte: 28″ x 38″, or larger
  • stretched canvas: 24″ x 36″ or larger
  • 40 pound weight limit
  • work must fit in gallery doors and be prepared for hanging or display

Please note, these are two separate shows. Artists may submit two pieces per show, and both count towards Bin Gallery membership.

UNLIMITED EDITION at Arlington Arts Center

UNLIMITED EDITION is a juried show about the relationship of the art world to reproduction and marketing. We’re looking for artists who produce lots of unnumbered multiples of an image or an object…or who incorporate mass-produced products into their work…or who simply explore the commodification and mass-reproduction of art through various means.

Notification date:
Friday, November 21, 2008

Exhibition dates:
December 12, 2008 – January 17, 2009

Art In City Hall
The Art League in partnership with the City of Alexandria, in conjunction with the Mayor’s initiative to promote the arts citywide in Alexandria, are coordinating a rotating fine arts exhibit. This exhibit will enhance the environment of Alexandria’s City Hall and promote the talent of local artists. The exhibit will be juried by an outside, independent expert in the arts and will hang for seven months on the second floor of the Alexandria City Hall.
RECEIVING:
Saturday, November 15, 10:00am – 2pm at Alexandria City Hall, 2nd floor

The Print Center’s 83rd Annual International Competition

DEADLINE: Friday, November 14
AWARDS and PRIZES
  • Purchase award for The Print Center Permanent Collection at The Philadelphia Museum of Art
  • Up to $2,500 in cash, material and purchase awards
  • A solo exhibition at The Print Center may be awarded by the Curator

Call for Exhibitions – 2009

The Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at Northern Virgina Community College, Alexandria Campus, invites proposals for exhibitions in the Margaret W. and Joseph L. Fisher Art Gallery.

Exhibition dates:
6-10 exhibitions, beginning February 2009

Proposal Deadline:
Proposals must be received by 5:00pm on Friday, December 12, 2008.

Eligibility:
Artists and organizations throughout the norther Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC metroplex area are eligible. Works can be in both two- and three-dimensional formats. Exhibitions may be group or solo.

Solo Jurying for 2010 is Over!

The quality of work presented before the jurors was quite high. They had very hard decisions to make. Of 52 artists, only 9 could be chosen.

Come in to pick up your works for solo jurying, along with your application packet. The decision will be attached to your work. We won’t tell you over the phone!

Gallery hours are 10am-6pm, Monday through Friday, and Thursdays until 9pm.

Gwen Bragg Critique

Don’t forget!
Watercolor instructor and a member of The Art League, Gwen Bragg will be doing a critique in the gallery tomorrow evening, Thursday, October 13 from 6:30-8:30pm. Artists may bring 2 pieces each.

Of 458 pieces submitted, 126 were juried in by Daniel Finch, Associate Professor of Visual Art at Messiah College. Mr. Finch was “overwhelmed by the high quality of work” and the interesting ways in which the theme was interpreted. Read his full interview with Erica Fortwengler here.

Revealed Histories will be on view at The Art League Gallery until November 3, along with Michele Hoben’s solo show, Mending Fences.
