Resolve to try something new in 2013!

A new year brings a new term at The Art League School, and could bring a new direction for you. If you’ve taken classes with us before, why not try a different medium? Or you haven’t done any art since grade school, why not learn something new this winter, and something that could stick with you for years to come? It worked out for our art neophyte George, as chronicled in this series.

The Winter Term starts next week, January 7, though some classes have later starting dates and classes may be joined late depending on space. Read on for ideas!

For some ideas about what to take, you can browse the school catalog online, or see some of our instructor video demos on YouTube. Here are some suggestions for beginners:

For another kind of drawing class, Lisa Semerad will be teaching Pencil Techniques and Projects, featured in the video above, as well as several other classes this winter — see all her winter classes here.

Looking to start something else?  You can learn the art of writing by hand in Calligraphy, starting January 12, or how to transform objects into your own creations in Collage: The Art of Transformation, starting January 23, or discover wax modeling Silver Jewelry the Easy Way, starting February 24.

There are also workshops throughout the winter, including Jumpstart in Wet Felting (one or two), where beginners can get into the medium used to create all sorts of things. There’s an Introduction to Kiln-Formed Glass on February 2 and 3 — you’ll make tiles, a bowl, and other projects with glass. There’s lots more to choose from — here’s the link to the catalog again!

Here’s to a creative 2013!
