Call for Entry, Creating Connections, Maryland Art Place — Baltimore

Deadline: August 27   Maryland Art Place (MAP), in partnership with the CyberWire, is pleased to announce an open ‘Call to Artists’. As an extension of MAP’s annual IMPRINT Project, MAP is working with the CyberWire to offer a unique opportunity to female and female identifying visual artists of the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. Collectively, MAP and the CyberWire wish to acquire and possibly commission, time permitting, plus license the image of a work of art. The image of that artwork will be reproduced in a limited edition and presented to the guests of the CyberWire’s 9th Annual Women in Cyber Security reception on October 20, 2022. Call for Entry, YOU EFF OH, Maryland Art Place — Baltimore

Deadline: August 31   Maryland Art Place (MAP) is proud to announce a call for submissions for a group show YOU EFF OH,  an exhibition that addresses what artists think about alien life and how this topic influences their practice. Call for Photography, 2022 International Alternative Processes — New York

Deadline: September 1   Soho Photo Gallery, New York’s longest running cooperative gallery, is excited to announce our 18th International Alternative Processes Competition. This year the Competition will return to the gallery, opening  on Wednesday, November 16 and closing on Saturday, December 3 2022.The opening reception is on Thursday, November 17th. Toward Equity in Publishing Professional Writing Development Program — DC

Deadline: September 15   Toward Equity in Publishing is a new initiative designed to remediate the inequitable conditions that precede and impede publication in the field of American art history. This professional development program is being launched by the peer-reviewed journal American Art, which is co-published by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and University of Chicago Press. It is open to applications from unpublished graduate students, untenured faculty, junior museum staff, and independent scholars who are producing research on American art history and related visual culture topics. Job Opening: Director of Marymount University’s Cody Gallery — Arlington, VA

Deadline: Until filled   The Director of the Cody Gallery provides management, leadership, and oversight of the operations, exhibitions, and other activities at Marymount’s Cody Gallery.  Under the leadership of the gallery director, Marymount’s mission and vision will be supported by curating a diverse representation of art, as a venue to promote contemporary discussions, and supporting Arlington community partnerships. Call for Public Art at Gateway West Development — Hyattsville, MD

Deadline: August 4   The Hyattsville Community Development Corporation is accepting artist proposals for an iconic, permanent public artwork for the entrance to Stanley Martin’s new Gateway West Development. Individual artists or artist teams from the greater metropolitan area or within 250 miles are eligible to respond. Locally established or emerging sculptors, woodworkers, metal-workers, and artists of any durable media are most welcomed. Call for Entries, 51st Annual Labor Day Art Show — Glen Echo, MD

Deadline: August 5    Glen Echo Park Partnership is proud to present the Labor Day Art Show Awards Program. Cash prizes of $250 each will be awarded for top works in the 2D and 3D categories. DC Public Library Open Call, UNCENSORED 2022 — DC

Deadline: August 10   This year the DC Public Library’s UNCENSORED installation will be a large-scale banner raising  awareness of topics explored in Clint Smith’s bestselling nonfiction book How the Word Is  Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America. Submitted works may consider how censorship is another way of erasing memory or history  around issues that are uncomfortable for many Americans to consider. Call to Artists, Target Gallery’s 2022 Fall Salon — Alexandria, VA

Deadline: August 21   The Torpedo Factory Art Center welcomes back Target Gallery’s fall art sale this year to support affordable art buying for art lovers and collectors. For this special exhibition, we will have up to 100 original artworks for sale in Target Gallery, the contemporary exhibition space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, by artists local to the greater DC metropolitan region. Call for Entries, Quilts=Art=Quilts —Auburn, NY

Deadline: August 27    Quilts=Art=Quilts is an international juried quilt exhibition at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, New York.  The Art Center has been a longstanding proponent of quilts as a visual arts medium and has been presenting quilts in a gallery setting since 1981. Call for Art, Out of Hand: Tradition Meets Tech — Solomons, MD

Deadline: August 28    Out of Hand is dedicated to exploring digital-assisted methods of expanding traditional practices. The exhibition focuses on how artworks can utilize the process of tuning, refining, or altering subjects, their contexts, or materials through the lens of digital aids. Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center invites emerging and established artists to submit original artworks to the ‘Out of Hand: Tradition Meets Tech’ exhibition. Call for Entry, The Changing Chesapeake: A Community Response Exhibition, St. Michaels, MD

Deadline: September 1   Although steeped in traditional culture, the Chesapeake long has been a place of change and evolution, and its history driven by response to that change. The Changing Chesapeake seeks submissions from students and adults alike, responding to changes they observe in the landscape and life around them. Call for Muralist, Loudoun County Public Schools — Loudoun County, VA

Deadline: September 2   Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), with the Loudoun County School Board-appointed Douglass High School Commemorative Committee (DHSCC), seeks submissions for the design, creation, and placement of a mural on the outside wall of the gym adjacent to the basketball court at the Historic Douglass High School. Renovation of the school campus is ongoing, and the identified area for the mural will be in a highly visible location, adjacent to an outdoor basketball court and historic themed community playground nearby. Deadline: September 15   In celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum, the museum is asking residents of Washington, D.C., to submit images of themselves and their communities to a new initiative, Portraits by the People. Deadline: September 18   Torpedo Factory Art Center invites artists living in the DC-metropolitan region to submit a proposal for a solo exhibition in Target Gallery, the Art Center’s contemporary exhibition space. OAS Art Museum of the Americas Call for Trans, Non-binary, and Gender-diverse Artist — DC

Deadline: October  31   OAS Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) of the OAS Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs (SHA), announces an open call to artists of the region to submit works addressing gender identity and expression, in order to stage an exhibition at the AMA. This program aims to strengthen and increase the visibility of the social, economic, cultural, civil, and political rights of trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in OAS Member States. Tour de Force Microgrants

Deadline: December 31   Tour de Force is a nonprofit organization that is committed to art and social impact. They support DMV-based artists, financially and logistically, by awarding monthly microgrants for ideas that have social impact, educational significance, and make the community better and more beautiful. The Creativity Grant Program State of Maryland (MD)

The purpose of the Creativity Grant Program is to strengthen the vitality and sustainability of artists and small organizations to maintain a strong and stable arts infrastructure in the State of Maryland. Artist/Writers: Cover Art for Academic Medicine

Deadline: Rolling. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation Accepting Applications for Art Projects

Deadline: Open. The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators. The money is pooled from ten or more self-organizing “micro-trustees.” The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest. Artists works will displayed in the hotel’s gallery (220 S Union St, Old Town Alexandria) for a six-month period. Two-dimensional, framed works only. An active cooperative for over 30 years, the gallery holds monthly solo and members’ group shows in its lovely space in upper Georgetown. Distant and shared memberships are available. Summer Art Camp Interns Wanted at The Art League — Alexandria, VA

Deadline: Until Filled  The Art League has internships available during the summer. This is a great opportunity for high school graduates or college students to meet their collegiate internship requirements, or provide a valuable experience and references. Interns for those who work more than 200 hours will be given a stipend. They may also be approved to teach paid sessions towards the end of the summer if they meet the appropriate criteria.
