Deadline: January 31 The Toyota Dream Car USA Art Contestis designed to inspire creativity in youth, ages 4-15, and help them imagine the future of mobility. Nine U.S. art contest winners are selected each year: the top three in three age categories (4-7 years; 8-11 years; and 12-15 years). Deadline: February 20 The Wheaton Arts Parade (WAP) Gallery will host “Scaled-Down for Spring” an exhibition of art that is 20″x20″ or smaller. Deadline: March 12 Montpelier Arts Center is holding a competition for exhibitions that will be held in the Library Gallery, September 2023 – July 2024. To be eligible, artists must be 18 years and older and reside in Maryland. Previous winners from 2018 to the present are ineligible. Deadline: January 30 Layering is both an integral part of longstanding artistic practices, Site:Brooklyn is looking for works that continue this exploration of the relationship between layering and artmaking, knowing that layering both is central to the history of art while always remaining aware of, and engaged with, its future potential. Deadline: February 1 Hunterdon Art Museum invites applications to our first triennial juried exhibition of ceramics. The form and content of your work will be up to you, the artist/maker. Deadline: February 1 Located in the historic village of Montegiovi, Italy, in southern Tuscany, Cultivate’s La Baldi Residency is open to artists, writers, and researchers. The multi-disciplinary, international residency expands Cultivate’s investigative platform centered on land, place, and the commons. Individuals and collaborative teams are free to experiment, develop ideas and projects, rejuvenate, and explore the land and culture of this special area for two-week or one-month stays. Deadline: February 5 Photographers are invited to explore how visual or tactile surface characteristics of objects or scenes can be enhanced or downplayed through the manipulation of light and angle. Because texture may either be real or implied, participants are also invited to take a broader look at the topic and to submit entries that convey texture through the basic or overall structure of an image. Deadline: February 5 The Creative Crafts Council 34th Biennial Exhibition will present some of the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia region’s top work in ceramics, enamel, fiber, glass, metal, mixed media, wood, book arts, and more at The Mansion at Strathmore. Deadline: February 6 The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) today announced the opening of its 2023 Allagash Wilderness Waterway (AWW) Visiting Artist Program application period. The program invites visual artists to the remote wilderness of Maine for two consecutive weeks of solitude. One artist and a guest will receive lodging at the AWW Lock Dam Camp for two weeks of the artist’s choosing during August and an orientation and regular visits from AWW Rangers. Deadline: February 10 This 9th Annual Allegany National Photography Competition & Exhibition (ANPCE), sponsored by the Allegany Arts Council, will meld the region’s rich concentration of photographic artists with an influx of national photographers in a juried competition offering $6,500 in cash prizes. Deadline: February 26 Montpelier Arts Center presents Artists on the Rise, an annual juried teen exhibition held in the galleries of Montpelier and designed to provide local teens with an opportunity to showcase their artistic accomplishments in a professional setting. Deadline: February 28, 2023 Maryland State Arts Council is now accepting applications for a special cycle of the Folklife Apprenticeship made available through Arts Relief funding. Folklife Apprenticeships are $5,000 each and support traditional arts education through the teaching of skills from a master artist to an apprentice artist. Applicants who are eligible for Folklife Apprenticeships are traditional artists who have resided in Maryland for at least six months. For more information, click here.

Deadline: March 17 The Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC) hosts an annual Juried Art Exhibition with a history dating back to 2004. The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase working artists to enhance the lives of VMRC residents, staff, and visitors. Deadline: Until filled The Art League is looking for skilled instructors in all visual arts disciplines. We’re particularly keen to recruit new hires for our sculpture, stained glass, and watercolor departments. Preferred applicants will have a personable and patient disposition, excellent communication skills, and the ability to teach their medium to groups of beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced level students. Class sizes range, depending on enrollment, from around 5 to 30 students. Experience teaching is helpful but not an absolute requirement. Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council (PGAHC) is featuring county artists at its newest art space Arts’tination at National Harbor, the premier arts and entertainment destination in our regions Located at 162 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD. Arts’tination is dedicated to supporting local artists and curating immersive creative experiences. Busboys and Poets is looking for submissions from Maryland and Virginia artists as it expands to new locations in both areas. The Alper Initiative for Washington Art features five exhibitions per year in the newly constructed first floor space in the American University Museum. We accept submissions, on a rolling basis, from Washington artists of all ages and backgrounds, and working in diverse media. The Hamilton Arts Collective (HAC) and the Hamilton Gallery seek applications from artists for month-long Guest Artist exhibitions at Hamilton Gallery located at 5502 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD. The selected guest artists will be invited to exhibit a selection of their current work in Gallery I of the Hamilton Gallery. The Howard County Arts Council gallery program was established to enhance the public’s appreciation of the visual arts, provide a venue to exhibit the work of local, regional, and national artists in a professional space, and provide leadership in the arts by presenting a broad spectrum of arts in all media from both emerging and established artists. The Creativity Grant also provides opportunities to serve the growing needs of relevant arts projects and collaborations within Maryland communities. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators. The money is pooled from ten or more self-organizing “micro-trustees.” The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest. This opportunity is great for both established and early career artists who need a boost to their artist portfolio. The 10th edition will once again explore and show current trends and tendencies in Contemporary Art: Peripheral ARTeries cultivates a spirit of openness through a unique collaborative and participatory approach.Each artist may submit a maximum of three works or projects made in any technique: painting, drawing, video art, experimental cinema, fine art photography, experimental media, mixed media, installations, public art, performance.
