Teen Open Studio will serve as an opportunity for high schoolers to have a space to work and receive advice/critique on art projects for school as well as develop portfolios for college applications. Deadline: January 15 The Howard County Conservancy, in a commitment to include works of art in our historical outbuilding renovation projects, is excited to announce a request for qualifications from artists from Howard County and the surrounding areas.
This commission seeks to identify an emerging professional artist to create original artwork to display in HCC’s renovated historic Carriage House, which has been turned into an educational space for our environmental education programs. The commissioned work of art will inspire HCC’s visitors to improve their environmental stewardship and gain a better appreciation of our natural world. Deadline: January 18 The Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation welcomes applications for its 2023 Individual Support Grants program, which will award grants of $25,000 in support of mature painters, sculptors, and printmakers who are in financial need. Deadline: January 19 Adkins Arboretum in Ridgely, Md. is seeking submissions for its annual Juried Art Show, to exhibit in March and April 2023. This includes, but is not limited to, visual artists, writers, dramaturgs, playwrights, performers, filmmakers, and composers. The City plans to apply for a Public Art Across Maryland (PAAM) New Artworks Grant to fund the work. Deadline: February 28, 2023 Maryland State Arts Council is now accepting applications for a special cycle of the Folklife Apprenticeship made available through Arts Relief funding. Folklife Apprenticeships are $5,000 each and support traditional arts education through the teaching of skills from a master artist to an apprentice artist. We’re particularly keen to recruit new hires for our sculpture, stained glass, and watercolor departments. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators.
