Teen Studio Instructor Wanted, HCAC — Ellicott City, MD  

Deadline: January 8   The Howard County Center for the Arts is looking for a teacher for a Teen Open Studio class! Teen Open Studio will serve as an opportunity for high schoolers to have a space to work and receive advice/critique on art projects for school as well as develop portfolios for college applications. Request for Qualifications, 2023-2024 Harford 250 Commemoration — Harford County, MD 

Deadline: January 13   The Historical Society of Harford County is seeking a qualified vendor for the design, fabrication, and installation of a permanent public art piece to memorialize Harford County’s 250th anniversary as part of the 2023-2024 Harford 250 Commemoration. Call for Artists, Howard County Conservancy — Woodstock, MD 

Deadline: January 15    The Howard County Conservancy, in a commitment to include works of art in our historical outbuilding renovation projects, is excited to announce a request for qualifications from artists from Howard County and the surrounding areas.
This commission seeks to identify an emerging professional artist to create original artwork to display in HCC’s renovated historic Carriage House, which has been turned into an educational space for our environmental education programs. The commissioned work of art will inspire HCC’s visitors to improve their environmental stewardship and gain a better appreciation of our natural world. The Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support Grant 

Deadline: January 18    The Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation welcomes applications for its 2023 Individual Support Grants program, which will award grants of $25,000 in support of mature painters, sculptors, and printmakers who are in financial need. To be eligible, applicants must be able to demonstrate they have been working in a mature phase of their art for at least 20 years. For more information, click here. 

 

Call for Entries, Adkins Arboretum 2023 Juried Art Show — Ridgely, MD 

Deadline: January 19    Adkins Arboretum in Ridgely, Md. is seeking submissions for its annual Juried Art Show, to exhibit in March and April 2023. The theme of the show—Discovering the Native Landscapes of Maryland’s Eastern Shore—celebrates the Arboretum’s mission of conservation. For more information, click here.  

 

Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship Residency — Provincetown, MA 

Deadline: February 1   Each year, the Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship in Provincetown offers 20 seven-month residencies to a juried group of emerging visual artists, fiction writers, and poets. Residencies run from October 1 through April 30. For more information, click here.  

 

Proposals Wanted, ARTsites Public Art — Ellicott City, MD 

Deadline: February 23   We are currently seeking proposals from artists and sites for ARTsites 2023, a one-year outdoor sculpture exhibit on display from August 2023 to July 2024. Call for Entry, The Breakfast Special: Cartoons & Cereal, Maryland Art Place — Baltimore 

Deadline: January 4    Do you recall spending your mornings pursuing the back of a cereal box, or beating your siblings to that special prize hiding inside, all while you skimmed that week’s installment of your favorite cartoon? Zekes’ Coffee Shop and Maryland Art Place (MAP) are seeking artworks related to morning cartoons, cereal boxes and anything related to the nostalgia of breakfast as a kid. Call for Proposals, Solos 2023, Museum for Contemporary Art Arlington — Arlington, VA 

Deadline: January 6    Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington is currently accepting proposals for SOLOS 2023, a series of solo exhibitions by Mid-Atlantic artists. Contemporary artists living or working in the Mid-Atlantic region are invited to propose solo exhibitions or projects to take place in one of the Museum’s gallery spaces. Cal for Artists, 11th Street Bridge Park & National Children’s Center Mural — D.C.

Deadline: January 6 Artists or Artist Teams are hereby invited to submit qualifications to be considered to participate in the installation of a mural at the NCC Baby Bloomers Farm. Deadline: January 11    This exhibition invites artists of all backgrounds to submit work that speaks to you and that you feel best expresses the theme. Call for Entries, Earth & Fire, Stifel Fine Arts Center — Wheeling, WV

Deadline: January 14, 2023   Stifel Fine Arts Center of Oglebay Institute will be hosting a national exhibition of ceramic art in February and March 2023. This is the first of an annual exhibition and will be a focal point of Ceramics Take Over Wheeling, a citywide event that will celebrate ceramic artists and clay enthusiasts alike. Call for Entry, Being Seen, The Artists Gallery — Frederick, MD 

Deadline: January 14    Being Seen is an exhibit for all artists 18+ years of age who are eager to share their work with viewers. Artistic expression for this exhibit has no limits in terms of style, inspiration, or media. Our goal is to exhibit engaging, masterfully executed, perplexing or uniquely beautiful works. The subject, or lack of subject is totally up to you. Being Seen is about allowing your work to be seen in a quality gallery setting and regional arts destination. Folger Institute Artistic Research Fellowship  

Deadline: January 15, 2023    Folger Institute Artistic Research Fellowships are open to artists working in all media whose work would benefit from significant primary research. This includes, but is not limited to, visual artists, writers, dramaturgs, playwrights, performers, filmmakers, and composers. Artistic fellowships may be conducted either as a virtual fellowship for one month or as a residential fellowship at the Folger for one, two, or three months. Learn more here. 

 

Torpedo Factory Art Center 2023 Post-Graduation Residency Opportunity 

Deadline: January 15    The Torpedo Factory Art Center Post-Graduation Residency is a competitive juried program that provides meaningful support and a three-month term solo studio space in the nation’s longest continually operated community of publicly accessible artists’ studios in a converted industrial space. This residency is open to recently graduated art students who earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the visual arts from an accredited university. For more information, click here

Deadline: January 16    The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) is proud to announce the 18th edition of the Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize. Call for Entries, Endangered Animals Public Art Project — D.C. 

Deadline: January 17    In partnership with Cleveland Park Main Street (CPMS) and Woodley Park Main Street (WPMS), Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is pleased to open interest form submissions to local artists to be part of the Endangered Animals Art Project, an extension of the Capitol Hill Alphabet Animal Art Project. The Capitol Hill Alphabet Animal Art Project (Alphabet Animals) is a community-focused public art project that promotes livability, walkability, and delight in the Southeast Quadrant of Washington, D.C. learn more here 

 

Call for Entry, Play: 31st Annual Strathmore Exhibition — Rockville, MD 

Deadline: January 21    Play is a pathway to connection, innovation, and renewal. We use play to sustain our creativity, build relationships, and cultivate a love of life. Strathmore welcomes artists to submit original artwork for Play: The 31st Annual Strathmore Juried Exhibition. Artwork may be of any style and medium, although Strathmore is not able to accommodate performance art at this time. Artists from within the DMV region and beyond are encouraged to apply. Deadline: January 22    The King Street Gallery in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Montgomery College is calling for artists to explore, expand, define, engage, meditate on, interrogate, and converse with the color blue. 2023 – 2024 Artist in Residence Program, Montgomery College — Silver Spring, MD 

Deadline: January 22    The Artist In Residence (AIR) program provides artists with studio space for up to one semester in duration. Kite Prize for Contemporary Art Award 

Deadline: January 23   The Kite Prize for Contemporary Art Award, an international visual art award, was established to recognize innovative visual artists and creatives who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their work.  The award is juried by Amie Potsic Art Advisory, LLC choosing a winning artist based on artistic excellence, creative accomplishment, and cultural significance. Call for Maryland Artists: Park Circle Triangle Sculpture —  Hagerstown, MD

Deadline: January 24    The City of Hagerstown seeks an artist to create a permanent sculpture adjacent to the Hagerstown Cultural Trail near Park Circle. The City plans to apply for a Public Art Across Maryland (PAAM) New Artworks Grant to fund the work. To be eligible, the lead artist must be a Maryland resident (owning or renting residential real property in Maryland at the time of submission of the application and throughout the funded project or program). Call for Entry, Layers–Material and Meaning, Site:Brooklyn — Brooklyn, NY 

Deadline: January 30 Layering is both an integral part of longstanding artistic practices,  Site:Brooklyn is looking for works that continue this exploration of the relationship between layering and artmaking, knowing that layering both is central to the history of art while always remaining aware of, and engaged with, its future potential. Open Call, Clay Bash 2023, A Triennial Ceramics Juried Exhibition — Clinton, NJ 

Deadline: February 1    Hunterdon Art Museum invites applications to our first triennial juried exhibition of ceramics. The form and content of your work will be up to you, the artist/maker. We are seeking lively and interesting interpretations of clay as material and idea. Your work may or may not fall within the traditional terms of description as “functional” or “sculptural”. Deadline: February 10     This 9th Annual Allegany National Photography Competition & Exhibition (ANPCE), sponsored by the Allegany Arts Council, will meld the region’s rich concentration of photographic artists with an influx of national photographers in a juried competition offering $6,500 in cash prizes. Call for Entry, Artist on the Rise Teen Juried Competition — Greenbelt, MD 

Deadline: February 26 Montpelier Arts Center presents Artists on the Rise, an annual juried teen exhibition held in the galleries of Montpelier and designed to provide local teens with an opportunity to showcase their artistic accomplishments in a professional setting. Call to Artists, Folklife Apprenticeship, Maryland

Deadline: February 28, 2023   Maryland State Arts Council is now accepting applications for a special cycle of the Folklife Apprenticeship made available through Arts Relief funding. Folklife Apprenticeships are $5,000 each and support traditional arts education through the teaching of skills from a master artist to an apprentice artist. Applicants who are eligible for Folklife Apprenticeships are traditional artists who have resided in Maryland for at least six months. Opening for a Part-time Quilting and Fiber Art Instructor, Motgomery College —  Montgomery County, MD

Instructors Wanted at The Art League — Alexandria, VA

Deadline: Until filled   The Art League is looking for skilled instructors in all visual arts disciplines. We’re particularly keen to recruit new hires for our sculpture, stained glass, and watercolor departments. Preferred applicants will have a personable and patient disposition, excellent communication skills, and the ability to teach their medium to groups of beginning, intermediate, and/or advanced level students. Class sizes range, depending on enrollment, from around 5 to 30 students. Experience teaching is helpful but not an absolute requirement. Pyramid Atlantic offers year-round workshops in printmaking, papermaking, book arts, and hybrids thereof. Busboys and Poets is looking for submissions from Maryland and Virginia artists as it expands to new locations in both areas. This residency was designed to give emerging contemporary artists an online platform to create new work and explore their practice. Accepting Artwork for Curatorial Review by AIWA

The Alper Initiative for Washington Art features five exhibitions per year in the newly constructed first floor space in the American University Museum. We accept submissions, on a rolling basis,  from Washington artists of all ages and backgrounds, and working in diverse media. Call For Entry Hamilton Arts Collective Guest Artist Exhibition – Baltimore, MD

The Hamilton Arts Collective (HAC) and the Hamilton Gallery seek applications from artists for month-long Guest Artist exhibitions at Hamilton Gallery located at 5502 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD. The selected guest artists will be invited to exhibit a selection of their current work in Gallery I of the Hamilton Gallery. The Guest Artist exhibition is featured in Hamilton Gallery communications and will be promoted by the HAC and Hamilton Gallery. Howard County Arts Council Quarterly Call For Artists – Ellicott City, MD

The Howard County Arts Council gallery program was established to enhance the public’s appreciation of the visual arts, provide a venue to exhibit the work of local, regional, and national artists in a professional space, and provide leadership in the arts by presenting a broad spectrum of arts in all media from both emerging and established artists. Artists, ages 18 and older, working in all media and styles including time-based and installation artists, are encouraged to apply either individually or as a group. The Athenaeum Gallery in Alexandria, Virginia exhibits visual arts created solely by artists living or working in the region (DC, Maryland and Virginia) and strives to present visitors with a wide variety of excellent art and unique experiences.  In addition to the shows curated by the Gallery Director, the Athenaeum Gallery invites artists and curators to submit show proposals. The Creativity Grant Program State of Maryland (MD)

Deadline: Rolling. The purpose of the Creativity Grant Program is to strengthen the vitality and sustainability of artists and small organizations to maintain a strong and stable arts infrastructure in the State of Maryland. The Creativity Grant also provides opportunities to serve the growing needs of relevant arts projects and collaborations within Maryland communities. Artist/Writers: Cover Art for Academic Medicine

Deadline: Rolling. Submit original works of art inspired by, but not necessarily representative of, an academic medicine experience from any perspective: caregiver, researcher, teacher, learner, or patient (for example, learning how to be a physician or scientist, caring for patients, exploring research questions, making a new discovery, being a research participant, teaching, or being cared for in a teaching hospital). The journal welcomes photography, sculpture, painting, textile work, and other visual media. Images may be cropped or resized to fit into the allotted cover space. Artists must also submit a related Cover Art essay as a narrative companion to the artwork, to explain the connection between the work and the “academic medicine experience.” The related narrative should be 250 to 600 words and is subject to editing. The Awesome Foundation Accepting Applications for Art Projects

Deadline: Open. The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences is a worldwide network of people devoted to forwarding the interest of “awesomeness in the universe.” Established in 2009, the foundation distributes $1,000 grants on a monthly basis to projects and their creators. The money is pooled from ten or more self-organizing “micro-trustees.” The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest. Call for Artists: Maryland Art Place Seeks Proposals for Rotating Exhibition Partnership with Baltimore’s Hotel Indigo (MD)

Peripheral ARTeries – Biennial Contemporary Art Publication

Deadline: Rolling. Peripheral ARTeries is looking for artists to be featured in the new special Biennial Edition of their art publication, that comes to its 10th edition. This opportunity is great for both established and early career artists who need a boost to their artist portfolio. The 10th edition will once again explore and show current trends and tendencies in Contemporary Art: Peripheral ARTeries cultivates a spirit of openness through a unique collaborative and participatory approach.Each artist may submit a maximum of three works or projects made in any technique: painting, drawing, video art, experimental cinema, fine art photography, experimental media, mixed media, installations, public art, performance. Exhibit at Hotel Indigo (VA)

Artists works will displayed in the hotel’s gallery (220 S Union St, Old Town Alexandria) for a six-month period. Two-dimensional, framed works only. Artists will install the work using the hotel’s mounting hardware. Labels will be provided by the hotel. All sales handled by artist, no commission. Deadline: ongoing. Foundry Gallery is seeking a few artists in the greater Washington, DC area.
