Call for Artists, Juried Exhibition Grant Program, DC Commission on the Arts — D.C.
Deadline: July 28 The Juried Exhibition Grant (JEG) provides support for District-based artists to exhibit their work in a juried, themed visual art exhibition through grant awards and the use of CAH’s exhibition space located in the lobby of 200 I Street, SE. This Request for Applications (RFA) seeks works for an exhibition that will reflect on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 during its 60th year anniversary in 2024 and how DC artists have been influenced, both explicitly and implicitly, by the social progress and reform of the past 60 years. This landmark legislation aimed to prohibit discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. By exploring this significant milestone, the exhibition seeks to provide insight into the progress, challenges, and ongoing efforts towards achieving equity and social justice. Learn more here.
Call For Art, Create! Magazine Issue #41 — Philadelphia
Deadline: July 30 Create! Magazine is thrilled to announce the call for entries for issue #41, juried by Victoria Fry, founder of Visionary Art Collective, a New York City contemporary art and artist development company. Open Call, Solo Exhibition, The Untitled Space — New York
Deadline: July 30 The Untitled Space gallery invites artists to apply for a Solo Exhibition to take place at the gallery in Tribeca, New York this Fall/Winter 2023. The selected artist will be awarded a solo exhibition that will be presented as an in-person solo show at the gallery on Lispenard Street located in the Tribeca Arts District of New York City. Deadline: July 31 Artists Collective Spartanburg in Spartanburg, South Caroline invites visual artists 18 years or older, residing in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia to enter their Fifth Annual Juried Exhibition in view at The Solomon Gallery September 13 – October 28, 2023. Call to Artists, Paint the Town Public Art Project — Bethesda, MD
Deadline: August 7 The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District and the Bethesda Urban Partnership announce a new public art mural project at the Norfolk Avenue Streetery located on Norfolk Avenue between St. Elmo Avenue and Cordell Avenue in downtown Bethesda, Maryland. Artists who are 18 years of age or older and residents of Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia are eligible, and must have prior experience with the design and installation of large-scale murals. Deadline: November 12 The Sparkplug Artists’ Collective is a one-year program that serves as a much-needed resource for artists seeking to establish, reignite, or sustain a professional art career. The collective provides a fertile environment for continued artistic and professional growth by providing mentorship, support, workshops, critiques, juries, art excursions, and coveted art exhibition opportunities in The DC Arts Center’s Main Gallery. Deadline: July 22 McLean Project for the Arts is seeking mid-Atlantic artists (DC, VA, MD, PA, NJ, DE, WV) to submit works that relate to the concept of (Not) Strictly Painting to be exhibited both in the gallery. This year’s applicants are invited to submit up to 4 jpegs of paintings or works related in some way to painting completed in the last two years and not previously exhibited at MPA. Work that combines painting with other materials or is conceptual in nature is acceptable and encouraged as well. Time based media are welcome, but must be limited to 10 minutes. Deadline: July 28 The Hudson Valley Plein Air Festival is a juried exhibition open to all painters in all mediums. Deadline: July 31 SlowArt Productions presents the annual thematic exhibition, A Show of Heads. The exhibition will be held at the Limner Gallery from October 12 – November 4, 2023. Open to all artists working in any media, this exhibition will include all interpretations and portrayals of the human head, from the traditional to the abstract and conceptual. Deadline: August 1 Quilts=Art=Quilts is an international juried quilt exhibition at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, New York. The Art Center has been a longstanding proponent of quilts as a visual arts medium and has been presenting quilts in a gallery setting since 1981. Deadline: August 2 The Artist/Scholar in Residence program supports artists or scholars in the creation of new scholarly and/or artists works that imaginatively study, experiment with, and/or critique the Library’s digital collections, materials, and/or services. Call to Artists, VisArts’ biannual F.E.A.S.T. Grant — Rockville, MD
Deadline: August 3 VisArts’ biannual F.E.A.S.T. (Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics) is a bridge between artists and the community. F.E.A.S.T. uses community-driven financial support to democratically fund projects that use art and creative thinking to impact the community. Funding for the project grant comes from the donations of attendees, who listen to and review a series of project proposals, and converse with the artists and thinkers behind each idea. This year’s F.E.A.S.T. is focused on the concept of REMEDIATION, as a practice and site of remembrance. Call to Artists, Capital Hill Art Walk — D.C.
Deadline: August 6 Local artists are invited to display their work in their own micro-galleries, at home-studios, on porches or in yards for the Capital Hill Art Walk, Saturday and Sunday, September 9 – 10, 2023 from noon- 5 pm. Most will have work for sale. It is free—no fees or commissions. Call for Entries, Embodying Masonic Values-2023, Masonic Library & Museum of Pennsylvania — Philadelphia
Deadline: August 10 For this open art competition, all artwork entries must display a visual interpretation of some aspect of Freemasonry in Pennsylvania, whether it be philosophical, historical, scientific, social, fraternal, charitable, architectural, etc. Selected artwork will be exhibited in the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia. Constructed in 1873, the Masonic Temple has become one of the great “wonders” of the Masonic world. Adorned with some of the finest artifacts of Freemasonry and magnificent lodge rooms based on themes of the ancient architectural world. The Masonic Temple connects us with our past by outwardly displaying our Masonic traditions and values. Located within the Masonic Temple is the Masonic Library & Museum of Pennsylvania, which houses thousands of texts and artifacts relating to the history of the fraternity in the Commonwealth and the founding of our great nation. Opening for Event Manager, Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival — Wheaton, MD
Deadline: August 11 Wheaton Arts Parade (WAP) is seeking the services of an event planner to help produce the 7th Annual Wheaton Arts Parade & Festival on October 15, 2023. WAP will provide site plans and manage registration, including the identification of vendors, exhibitors, performers, parade participants, and volunteers. Deadline: August 11 This group exhibition is open to trans, queer, gender non conforming and gender expansive artists of the DC area. Public Art Opportunity, Marlow Heights Community Center — Marlow Heights, MD

Call to Artists, VSA Emerging Young Artists 2023: Interchange — D.C.
Deadline: August 18 The VSA Emerging Young Artists Program, a Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability Program, showcases the work of visual artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, who reside in the United States. Fifteen winning artists are selected by a jury. Each winning artist receives a $5,000 award and has one of their submitted pieces selected to travel in a year-long national exhibition. Winning artists are required to attend an all-expenses-paid professional development workshop at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. February 26-29, 2024. Deadline: September 29 From juror Mike Jabbur: “As I consider applications, I have no preference for a single style or approach. I hope to see examples that emphasize practical form and function, sculptural exploration that maintains functionality, and metaphorical teapots that may not function at all—the so-called “teapot as sculpture.” I welcome teapots made with any clay bodies, firing methods, and forming processes.
