Our native bees build their nests underground and each spring they take up residence under my lawn.  Bees are important pollinators and without them there would be no flowering plants. Because I don’t really know what bees nests look like underground, I have pictured this one here more like the interior of a honeybee hive.  I have created the bees out of pieces of obsidian with plastic wings and used strips of clear plastic and metal nuts to represent the hexagonal cells that bees create. The outside environment is made of strips of canvas woven together.
