Cambrian Explosion by Joan Slottow

The Cambrian Explosion, as evidenced by the fossils first discovered in the Burgess Shale in Canada, was a time period, starting approximately 538.8 million years ago, when complex animal life, with hard outer shells, first appeared on earth.   These animals lived in shallow seas; the most famous of which is the trilobite.
