Sun Feeds Earth Flag by Joan Slottow

Except for small amounts of energy created and captured in other ways, the energy needed by living creatures on earth comes mainly via the ability of green plants to use the sun’s energy to manufacture carbohydrates.  In this painting, I have combined the sun and the energy raining down from it into a figure formed of rays of photons.  As seen at the bottom of the painting, the sun’s energy causes: “the waters (to) bring fourth swarms of living creatures, and birds (to) fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” (Genesis 1:20).   There is a cut out in the canvas to accommodate two light switches.  Since the electricity in my house is made from sunlight captured by solar panels, the light switches fit in perfectly with the theme of the painting.
