Joan Slottow’s solo exhibit, The Natural World, showcases artwork that embodies ideas about natural processes and depicts animals and birds. With a range of textures, low relief, and shadows, her paintings are transformed into sculptures on canvas. A long-term hiker, environmentalist, and gardener, Joan says “As a child, my mother taught me to observe, respect, and be knowledgeable about nature, and her passion rubbed off on me. I feel a great deal of excitement when I see a preying mantis, a goldfinch, or a toad in my Northern Virginia neighborhood—somehow, animals end up in my artwork as well.”
Opening reception and artist talk: Friday, March 13th from 6:30-8pm
